Dr. Tom Burns

Thomas Burns is a native of Austin and a graduate of Anderson High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Burns completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center before being selected for the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Sports Medicine Fellowship in Vail, Colorado.
Dr. Burns has been practicing orthopedics and sports medicine in Austin since 1991. He is a team physician for the United States Ski Team and travels the world taking care of world class athletes. He continues to treat athletes at the professional, Olympic, collegiate, high school and recreational levels. He currently cares for the U.S. Ski Team, as well as St. Edwards University and numerous high school and recreational athletes in the Austin and central Texas area.
Dr. Burns has over two decades of experience treating athletes of all levels in multiple sports. As a previous competitive athlete, the added experience of treating world class athletes has given Dr. Burns insight that has helped him return athletes to competition quickly with as little loss of conditioning as possible.
Dr. Burns' orthopaedic interests include minimally invasive knee and shoulder arthroscopy and minimal incision joint replacement techniques as well as accelerated, sport-specific rehabilitation techniques. He also has a special interest in regenerative medicine including orthopedic applications for autologous stem cells and PRP (platelet rich plasma). Outside interests include family, tennis, golf, hunting and travel.

Gabriel Petty, MPAS, PA-C
Mr. Petty is a native Texan and has been in clinical practice as a physician assistant with Dr. Thomas Burns since 2009.
He graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas with his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry prior to earning his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
Mr. Petty is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, the Central Texas PA Society, and the Society of Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery.
Gabriel enjoys working with patients of all ages and activity levels. He has a special interest in patient education. He enjoys spending time with each patient, so that they truly understand their condition, and how to prevent future injury if possible. He is also well versed in conservative therapeutic treatment options for your orthopedic condition.
Gabriel enjoys hiking with his dog Chance, spending time at the lake, skiing, and traveling.
