I recently had patella surgery at Westlake Orthopaedics with Dr. Thomas Burns. I can honestly say he is one of the kindest doctors I have ever met, and his bedside manner is what others strive for. He had also operated on my wife’s shoulder about 5 years ago, and she agrees— he is the best.
As a triathlete and marathon competitor, I depend on my body to perform at the highest level. After I was injured, I thought that I would have to give up running. Thanks to Westlake Orthopaedics, Dr. Burns, his staff, and my own PRP (platelet rich plasma) I am back on the road again.
I am not as physically active as I was when I was younger. Many of my friends were getting their knees (and hips) replaced and recommended that I see the doctors here at Westlake Orthopaedics. Dr. Moore has a great bedside manner and is very knowledgable about hip replacements. He explained to me what to expect from my hip replacement, and that it was the very same type of hip that Olympic Athlete, Mary Lou Retton had! Wow! Since my surgery, I am much more active, walking with my friends daily without pain.
Late on a Saturday evening, my 14 year old daughter, Jessica fell during a meet and broke her arm. Dr. Crawford met us in the Westlake ER, was able to fix it that night, and took care of us until it healed, at his office at Westlake Orthopaedics. Jessica is doing great thanks to the excellent treatment she received.
I had been suffering with progressive neck and back pain with radiculopathy for too long. Other doctors said nothing could be done and that I would just have to deal with it. I went to see Dr. Spann on recommendation from a friend. Thankfully he was able to see me on such short notice. He spent a long time with me answering all of my questions and developing a plan to help me. I can honestly say that he saved my life!
I had severe Tibial Plateau Fracture and 1 1/2 cenimeter depression with a slight meniscus tear. I had used Westlake Orthopaedics in January 2009 for bursitus fluid on my left knee in which they drained it and took care of it with no problems.I have most recently been back to visit as mentioned I have a pretty severe tibial plateau fracture that occurred while traveling. Once it was determined that surgery was necessary and the MRI photos were available, I thought long and hard about who was going to perform my surgery. I have never had surgery nor an injury of this magnitude. I performed research and review ratings all over the Austin area and was very comfortable with Dr. Thomas Burns, the staff and facility.Dr. Burns is the team doctor for the US Ski Team so he was quite familiar with this type of injury. I had surgery last Friday and everything looks perfect to date. His PA has also been very helpful, responsive and helpful.
As an athletic trainer, I know the stresses that an athlete goes through after injury to get back in the game. I never thought I would have to do the same until I tore my ACL. The people at Westlake Orthopaedics, from the front desk, to the OR, to the physical therapists were all great at reassuring me every step along the way. The minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery was a breeze and I was back on my feet the same day! Now, just a relatively short time from initial injury, and I am stronger than ever! Thanks Dr. Burns!
